About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Indigenous elder to join our team as an Elder in Residence. In this role, you will play a vital part in building connections between Native community elders and students, faculty, and staff at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Community Building: Establish and maintain relationships with Native and Indigenous students, faculty, and staff to foster a sense of community and support their academic journey.
  • Cultural Sharing: Host biweekly residencies in the COIN suite, sharing your wisdom and experiences to strengthen Indigenous students' sense of community and cultural connection.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to Indigenous students, helping them navigate the university environment and achieve their goals.
  • Event Attendance: Participate in COIN events throughout the academic year, contributing to the growth and development of our Indigenous community.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Knowledge and Experience: A deep understanding of Indigenous community-specific teachings, cultural practices, traditions, language, and ceremony.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Issues: Familiarity with issues impacting Indigenous health and wellbeing, including intergenerational trauma, colonization, and colonialism.
  • Community Connection: A strong connection to the Native community, with a demonstrated commitment to Indigenous culture and values.

Estimated Salary Range

$40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on education and experience.
