Position Overview

The Emulsion Transport Specialist operates a distributor truck with a capacity of 3,000 gallons, responsible for transporting emulsions to designated locations. When not driving, the individual will assist the paving crew. This role requires skilled operation of vehicles and equipment, adhering to safety protocols and following the supervisor's guidance, while working independently on less complex tasks.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Safely navigate the truck to assigned destinations.
  • Support the crew with various tasks when not driving the distributor truck.
  • Maintain communication with the supervisor via telephone or radio, directing paving trucks to the job site.
  • Load the truck from the emulsion tank as required.
  • Apply emulsion to road surfaces prior to paving operations.
  • Keep a truck log in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of truck equipment and supplies, including tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water.
  • Hold a valid CDL B License with Tank and Hazmat Endorsement.
  • Follow supervisor's instructions regarding daily tasks and expectations for each project.
  • Perform manual labor such as shoveling dirt, stone, asphalt, or other materials as needed.
  • May take on roles such as flagman for traffic control, janitor, steam cleaner operator, or grease man.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures for maintaining a safe work environment. Report any issues to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Comply with applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
  • Exhibit regular and predictable attendance at assigned times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To succeed in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. Education/Experience
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A CDL Class A or B with Tanker and Air Brakes and Hazmat endorsements are mandatory.
Work Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Successful completion of a DOT physical, drug screening, and criminal background check is required.
  • MVR must comply with company and DOT standards.
  • Adherence to safety protocols as outlined in the Employee Handbook is essential.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor towards co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and assist colleagues or supervisors as needed.
  • Must hold a current driver's license that meets state requirements, including possible hazmat and tanker endorsements.
  • Willingness to train individuals lacking driving experience, provided they maintain a CDL A or B license.
  • Must be open to travel and work away from home when necessary.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements in designated areas as mandated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Adherence to all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Comprehensive operational knowledge and skills for trucks and related equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under varying conditions.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and performing basic math for record-keeping and understanding project documents.
  • Capability to work effectively in a team and independently, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competence in operating heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and independent judgment.
  • Familiarity with securing heavy equipment and oversized loads.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers, handle payments, and resolve issues.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The role involves climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering loads as applicable.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.
  • May require prolonged sitting.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Must be able to lift the truck hood unassisted and handle loads up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Capable of climbing in and out of the truck, which may involve 3-4 steps (elevated 4+ feet into the cab) multiple times throughout the day.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The role may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, outdoor conditions, and risks of electrical shock or burns.
  • Noise levels in some work areas may be loud, but are typically moderate.
