Patient Care Assistant

At St. Luke's Hospital, we are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Patient Observation Attendant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:- Report on and off duty to the registered nurse assigned to care for the patient.
- Receive specific observation guidelines from the registered nurse for each patient, shift, and assignment.
- Provide a safe environment for the patient under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Remain with the patient at all times as directed by the registered nurse.
- Identify yourself to the patient and/or family members or significant others.
- Provide continual observation and monitoring of the patient.
- Report behavior changes and patient requests to the patient care provider or registered nurse.
- Do not leave the patient unattended, even while reporting observations.
- Accompany the patient to/from and during tests or treatments.
- May assist the patient with setting up meals and fluids (only if no known swallowing deficiencies).
- Maintain the patient room in a neat and orderly manner.
- Provide a safe environment for the patient under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Provide constant observation of the patient as directed by the registered nurse.
- Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time.
- Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time.
- Walk 6 hours per day; 15 minutes at a time.
- Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds.
- Transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, bed, and/or stretcher.
- Frequently stoop and bend.
- Frequently reach above shoulder level.
- Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch.
- Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high/low frequencies.
- Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Must complete mandatory education and competencies required for the position.
