Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Echocardiography Technologist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Comstock Center. As an Echocardiography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing high-quality echocardiographic examinations according to the ARIC study protocol in a timely manner. You will also be responsible for ensuring that images and records are properly completed with participant identification data and appropriate labeling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-quality echocardiographic examinations according to the ARIC study protocol in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that images and records are properly completed with participant identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete image documentation and transfers to reading center in a timely manner.
  • Discuss any relevant clinical findings with the center manager and/or supervising physician to ensure timely follow-up.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures that it is properly supplied for procedures.
  • Checks equipment and accessories to ensure proper working order and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs.
  • Responds to inquiries/calls regarding procedures in a timely manner.
  • Communicates problems with equipment or scheduled exams with appropriate staff.
  • Assists with scheduling and coordinating exams as appropriate to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Performs quality control on assigned equipment and reports issues timely.
  • Verifies the participant's identification based on study ID.
  • Communicates with participants clearly and in a professional manner.
  • Ensures proper participant preparation, verifies screening protocols, and answers questions.
  • Assists participants in dressing for exam and attend to participant's physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and table, and positioning for exam.
  • Instructs/communicates with participant regarding the study to be performed and assesses the participant's ability to tolerate exam.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of other echo technicians involved in this study, if necessary.
  • Participates in the modality specific QA/QC program and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the ARIC/ACHIEVE clinic as needed when not performing echocardiograms by completing blood pressures, anthropometric measurements, interviews, and other procedures. Training in these procedures will be provided.
  • Completes other duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED required. Graduate of an accredited cardiac ultrasound program, associate degree in Ultrasound Technology, or equivalent.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible.
  • BLS CPR certification required.
  • Requires a thorough understanding in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
