Job Overview:

The Electrical Power and Control Instructor is tasked with delivering all facets of instruction for the designated program. This includes, but is not limited to, developing, updating, and assessing the curriculum for the program area, while leveraging all available resources to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of the industry. The instructor is responsible for providing current skills training and education to meet the learning objectives of students.

Instructor Responsibilities:

As a Technical Instructor at TSTC, you will benefit from small class sizes, typically ranging from 12 to 15 students, with an average of 15 per class. Courses are structured to include brief lectures followed by hands-on laboratory experiences, maximizing student engagement and practical learning. Instructors are expected to be available for tutoring and student recruitment events while on campus. All technical courses include in-person laboratory tasks. A typical day involves teaching one to two courses, with the potential to manage four or more courses per semester based on enrollment.

Instructors may occasionally be assigned additional courses in response to changing enrollment demands. The standard workday is from 8 am to 5 pm, with optional evening or weekend commitments. There are also opportunities to provide additional training for industry professionals.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of verifiable industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting electrical systems and components.
  • Experience with electrical testing in accordance with NETA standards or similar.
  • Knowledge of NFPA-70E electrical safety practices.
  • Understanding of electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and consumer demand systems.
  • Familiarity with AC/DC variable speed motor drives.
  • Experience with electrical maintenance tasks.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Associate's degree (or higher) in a related field or an equivalent certification/training.
  • Proven competency in the field.
  • Ability to utilize technology effectively to support learning and instruction.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for evening, weekend, or summer assignments as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a commitment to the institution's mission and vision.
Instructional Delivery:

Prepare and deliver high-quality instruction while facilitating student learning. Develop comprehensive course syllabi and instructional plans, organizing daily classes with a variety of innovative techniques.

Instructional Management:

Fulfill assigned teaching schedules, maintain accurate student records, and ensure a safe instructional environment, emphasizing equipment security where applicable, while providing opportunities for student evaluation.

Student Retention & Placement:

Provide timely and accurate advisement to students, ensuring they receive comprehensive information. Collaborate with the Office of Student Success to offer current information on tutoring and other programs aimed at enhancing retention.

Program Recruitment & Promotion:

Engage in recruitment events and assist in planning for departmental recruitment initiatives.

Teamwork & Service:

Exhibit a commitment to service, demonstrating courteous behavior towards students, parents, employers, and colleagues. Maintain flexibility in scheduling and a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and values. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Target Hiring Range: $90,136.25 to $103,656.69
