Geriatric Behavioral Health Nurse

The Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at Highpoint Health Sumner is dedicated to providing specialized mental health care for elderly patients. In partnership with Kindred Health, our mission is to address the complex psychiatric and emotional needs of geriatric patients in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatment within the BHU.
- Document patient care given and patient rounds and condition within the required time-frames.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluate learning needs of the Behavioral patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
- Perform patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice in other nursing units as necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements:Applicants should have a current State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure and possess an Associate's or Bachelor's degree or RN Diploma in Nursing.
Required Certifications:
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire
Minimum Work Experience:
- 1 year of experience in Geriatric Nursing, preferably in Behavioral Health - preferred
