We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Northern Dutchess Hospital. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. You will collaborate with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients.
Responsibilities- Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated, documenting detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizing to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving, assessing the patient prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed.
- Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks, maintaining accountability for care delegated.
- Actively works to promote a culture of safety, assessing patients for potential safety risks, adhering to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety, initiating interventions related to the risk factors identified.
- Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peer on assigned patients at change of shift, demonstrating quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
- Ensures patient hand-off as appropriate when leaving for breaks, assessing learning needs of patient/family/significant other, planning and providing appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods, assessing and documenting patient/family/significant other response to teaching.
- Cares for specific patient populations, despite location, as necessary.
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate's Level Degree (required) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals) license, current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals), or New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only).
- American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (*Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required upon hire.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Required by end of orientation period for ED, ICU, CCU, SDU PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR, Float Pool - specific to individuals' competency and location floated.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required by end of orientation period for ED, PACU, Pediatric Areas.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required by end of orientation period for MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Within 1 year of hire for LDRP.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required Danbury, Norwalk, ICU (Preferred, but may have TCAR), PACU (DH - Preferred) - Within 1 year of hire.
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - Within 1 year of hire for ED RN.
- TCAR (Trauma Care for the Registered Nurse) - Within 1 year of hire for ICU (VBMC - Preferred), ICU/PACU (NH).
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) - Within 1 year of hire for Infusion - NDH Required, Oncology - VBMC Required, Oncology - Sharon Required.
- CPI or other de-escalation technique training - Within 6 months of hire for Behavioral Health, ED (All hospitals), Float Pool Putnam, 6W, Float Pool (Norwalk), ICU, PCU, 9 tower (DH).
- S.T.A.B.L.E - Within 6 months of hire for OB (NDH Only).
