Regional Facilities Custodial Specialist

GENERAL OVERVIEW
Engage in moderately complex custodial tasks within designated areas. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and care for facilities managed by the Department of Public Safety, overseeing custodial equipment, and managing supply requests. This role may involve training others and operates under general supervision, allowing for initiative and independent judgment.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute general cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and window cleaning.
- Conduct restroom upkeep, replenish necessary supplies, and apply appropriate cleaning agents.
- Maintain cleanliness of office furniture, walls, and windows; manage waste disposal and ensure comprehensive office cleaning.
- Disinfect and clean various areas including restrooms, offices, and other facilities.
- Perform maintenance and care for carpets.
- Clean drapes and upholstery, as well as repair venetian blinds and curtain rods.
- Assist in furniture relocation for cleaning, office reconfigurations, or special events.
- Operate floor maintenance machinery, including buffers, strippers, vacuums, and extractors.
- May carry out minor repairs on custodial equipment.
- Manage and restock custodial supply storage areas.
- May perform limited outdoor maintenance tasks such as mowing, shrub trimming, edging, weeding, and cleaning outdoor areas.
- Adhere to regular attendance and comply with agency leave and attendance policies.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: A minimum of six months of relevant experience in custodial methods, materials, and equipment is preferred.
Licensure: A valid driver’s license from the state of residence is required.
Custodial Expertise: Ability to effectively perform custodial duties and operate modern cleaning equipment. Must be able to read and comprehend safety labels on cleaning products.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with TXDPS, state, and federal regulations, as well as cleaning techniques and inventory management principles.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating standard office computers for timecard input and email management is necessary.
Analytical Skills: Must be detail-oriented and capable of multitasking while maintaining accuracy. Ability to analyze issues and implement effective solutions.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are essential, requiring poise, tact, and the ability to foster effective working relationships.
Organizational Skills: Must be organized and adaptable, capable of prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment.
Confidentiality: Must handle sensitive information responsibly.
Schedule: Availability for after-hours and weekend work may be necessary for special projects.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Physical abilities required include standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Must possess hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
- Ability to lift weights up to fifty pounds.
- Occasional driving may be required.
