Unit Coordinator

The Unit Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the nursing unit. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate the activities of nursing staff, patients, physicians, and other hospital departments.

• Coordinate the activities of nursing staff, patients, physicians, and other hospital departments
• Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit
• Act as a resource person to nursing staff, other clinicians, and support services
• Utilize software applications required by department and unit standards
• Access Lotus Notes to review email, learning management, and other resources as applicable
• Review and follow up on all CPOE orders and order entry per SSH policy and procedure
• Fax necessary discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation to appropriate providers
• Unit Workflow
• Print, review, and inquire about all unit reports as needed
• Complete shift-to-shift report and shift rounds to ensure patient safety
• Order supplies from Stores/other departments as needed or requested in collaboration with Operations Supervisor
• Maintain and change par levels and order from outside vendors in collaboration with Operations Supervisor

The Unit Coordinator fosters a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment. This includes understanding individual roles and responsibilities in the event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness and ensuring the unit environment meets regulatory requirements at all times.

• Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
