Public Health Nurse I

As a Public Health Nurse I with the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services, you will play a vital role in promoting optimum wellness and disease prevention in our communities.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Provides essential public health nursing services as part of the family health services team in assigned communities.
- Establishes and maintains community partnerships with stakeholders, including local officials, community leaders, and healthcare providers.
- Participates in community assessments, identifies health needs, and plans interventions using evidence-based strategies.
- Develops and coordinates community health education programs and assists with community preparedness activities.
- Represents DSHS on local coalitions, school health advisory boards, and other collaborations.
**Requirements:**
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, nursing process, and the legal framework of nursing.
- Knowledge of public health principles, epidemiology, disease prevention, and health promotion.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
- Ability to function as a team member and develop effective working relationships with the public and healthcare professionals.
**Working Conditions:**
- Travel required throughout the seven-county region.
- Occasional evening and weekend work.
- Ability to meet physical demands of job functions.
**Education and Experience:**
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- Experience in public health nursing or a related field.
