Main Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:


The Welding Process Engineer is tasked with enhancing and refining welding methodologies and the welder certification framework alongside the welding team.

Providing support to the welding shop and welders in terms of process enhancements, certifications, and documentation. Directing technicians in the execution of process improvements, certifications, and documentation. Reports to the Operations Director as part of the welding unit.

Essential Qualifications:

Ability to assist welders with challenges related to welding processes.
Deliver innovative and technically significant welding solutions to support fabrication.

Accountable for the development and documentation of fusion welding schedules with the collaboration of the shop floor, including the establishment of welding processes/parameters for various welding techniques, and the identification of new or enhanced welding methods.

Support MRB actions by guiding relevant personnel in the correct repair or corrective action steps.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with customer and NADCAP audits in collaboration with the Quality Engineering team, including the preparation of checklists and the maintenance of NADCAP Certifications for GTAW and RSA Welding processes.

Conduct internal welding process audits with the assistance of the Quality Engineering Team.
Possess expert knowledge of applicable NDT processes and specifications.
Ability to interpret and comprehend drawings and their requirements.

Management and execution of welding qualification tests, including the interpretation of results and collaboration with nondestructive testing (NDT) personnel to assess weld quality.

Provide constructive feedback to operational standards and shop aids to enhance efficiency and throughput of weldment assemblies and subassemblies.

Must be certifiable as a visual welding inspector according to internal standards.
General knowledge of relevant AWS standards is required.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Capable of training other personnel in the preparation and welding of components.
Maintain a clean and organized working environment for all equipment and tools.
Perform routine tasks and additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

AWS QC1 certification.
Prior experience in welding thin-gauge materials (up to 0.125 inches).
Experience with electric turntables (foot-controlled).

Minimum Education & Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience as a welding engineer or expert in the Aerospace sector.
Experience in developing welding procedure schedules.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Extensive understanding of materials, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Knowledge of various welding processes including Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, and Spot Resistance.
Familiarity with welding codes such as AWS D17.1, AWS B5.2, and AWS D17.2.
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other departments.


Proficient in reading and interpreting documents in English, including blueprints, manufacturing plans, safety regulations, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Effective communication skills in English.
Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations.
Ability to apply common sense in executing instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.

Essential Physical/Mental Abilities Required:


The employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; and communicate effectively.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
