Position Overview:

  • The role involves operating various types of vehicles to ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proficiency in manual transmission and tire chaining.
  • Accountable for the safe operation of a Class B CDL Straight Truck for freight transportation, adhering to company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Compliance with FMCSA standards is mandatory for all drivers holding a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records in line with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • While a Hazmat endorsement is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement.
  • Ensure the security of both equipment and cargo at all times.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to confirm the safe operational status of the vehicle.
  • Monitor gauges and visual indicators for any malfunctions, ensuring seals or locks on trailers are intact.
  • Promptly report any maintenance issues to Fleet Services or supervisory personnel.
  • Verify unit numbers against provided documentation and report any inconsistencies to a supervisor.
  • May require the use of in-cab technology, including electronic logging devices.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules and assist with dock operations as needed.
  • Deliver professional and courteous service to customers and the public.
  • Assist with loading and unloading freight as required by business needs.
  • Regular attendance is essential for this position.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent background.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years old for interstate driving (minimum one year of driving experience required).
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License is required.
  • Registration with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is necessary.
  • Candidates should reside within a 75-mile radius of the terminal or work assignment.
  • An air brake endorsement is required if the vehicle is equipped with air brakes.
  • A stable employment history is preferred.
  • Ability to operate a forklift (minimum capacity of 7,500 lbs.) is necessary.
  • Must be capable of pushing or pulling a loaded pallet jack or hand truck weighing at least 70 lbs.
  • Physical activities include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, and climbing.
  • An acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is required.
  • Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA regulations is essential.
  • Passing a FMCSA-required medical examination is mandatory.
  • A road test is required to demonstrate driving competency.
  • Ability to meet FMCSA requirements for English comprehension is necessary.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs. or more as required by job functions.
  • Candidates must be able to navigate all routes and terrains, including mountainous and challenging environments.
  • Ability to drive in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures, is essential.
  • Proficiency in operating all safety and operational functions of the vehicle is required.
  • Compliance with company policies and the Code of Conduct is expected.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential.
  • Must be capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operational manuals is required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check is mandatory.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required.
