Overview:
Carthage College's Center for Student Success (CSS) is on the lookout for capable candidates for the Graduate Student Assistant role focused on New Student Programs. Ideal applicants will be enrolled in a two-year graduate program at Carthage College and fulfill the requirements outlined below.
CSS is dedicated to ensuring students' smooth transition to college life and promoting ongoing academic achievement and retention through graduation. The CSS team collaborates closely with various college personnel to comprehensively address the academic, personal, and social needs of students, particularly those from underrepresented or underserved backgrounds. CSS employs a data-driven, holistic approach that utilizes the expertise, influence, and resources of campus partners to enhance student learning and eliminate obstacles to success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graduate Student Assistant for New Student Programs will assist the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Wellness along with CSS staff on initiatives related to International and Transfer Student Orientations and all facets of the first-year seminar course, College Success Seminar, at Carthage. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Recruiting and training Peer Coach Leaders and Peer Coaches for the College Success Seminar
- Co-supervising Peer Coach Leaders and Peer Coaches
- Recruiting and training students for orientation activities
- Managing Program Planning tasks, such as reserving rooms and technology, preparing presentations, facilitating training sessions, developing and coordinating marketing and communication strategies, identifying necessary supplies and resources, implementing assessment processes, tracking related budget items, and creating and updating course and program materials
- Participating in regular CSS staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with the supervisor
- Attending relevant campus meetings
- Assisting with the execution of various CSS events and programs
- Responding to inquiries in the designated email account as appropriate
- Engaging in continuous professional development by learning best practices, etc.
- Collaborating with office and campus staff and faculty to contribute to the overall mission of the Center for Student Success
- Delivering exceptional customer service while demonstrating integrity and initiative
- Other responsibilities as assigned
