Position Overview:
As part of the Campus Life Enterprise Services (CLES), the Student Center Facilities Support Team plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and providing event and audio-visual support within Cornell's Student Centers. These centers serve as vibrant hubs for students and community members, offering spaces for social interaction, dining, and study. Our team is committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences through meticulous attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
The Support Custodian SO-02 is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and operational readiness of key public areas, including lobbies, offices, classrooms, conference rooms, dining facilities, restrooms, and other community spaces. The role is vital in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, allowing users and visitors to enjoy well-kept environments. Key duties include:
- Assessing custodial maintenance needs and executing tasks to meet established standards.
- Demonstrating effective interpersonal and customer service skills to communicate with diverse building guests and students.
- Performing detailed and labor-intensive custodial tasks consistently.
- Adapting to changing schedules, locations, and tasks to support special events and unforeseen circumstances.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience in customer service or a combination of experience and education.
- Proficiency in reading and writing in English.
- Basic computer skills and troubleshooting experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid NY State driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift.
- Capability to operate necessary power equipment (e.g., floor machines, vacuums, buffers).
- Ability to climb an 8 ft. ladder and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
- Must manage any dust allergies effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional education beyond high school or experience in a custodial role.
- Knowledge and experience in a Student Center, Event Center, or Conference Center operations.
- Experience in event setups and basic audiovisual support.
Additional Information:
This position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, with a starting pay rate of $20.03/hour as per the collective bargaining agreement. Assignments will be based on business needs, including varying shifts, nights, weekends, and holiday coverage. No relocation assistance or visa sponsorship is available for this position.
