This position is located within the College of Nursing (CoN) and reports directly to the Program Chair/Director. The responsibilities encompass both teaching and service. Teaching is defined as creating environments that enhance student learning and achieving expected outcomes at both course and program levels. Faculty members are responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curricula designed to equip graduates for nursing care in a dynamic healthcare setting. Service involves utilizing academic and professional expertise to benefit the University, the nursing profession, and the community. This includes engaging in meaningful activities that promote the image, mission, or strategic priorities of the University and contribute to the professional growth of faculty.
This position is a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) role, with anticipated participation in online, on-campus, and clinical program activities. The on-campus presence will be negotiated with the Program Director on an individual basis. Hybrid and/or online teaching methods will be developed collaboratively by faculty consensus and not determined individually unless approved by the Lead Faculty and Program Director. This is an annual instructor rank position within our Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program. Alongside teaching responsibilities, faculty are expected to engage in service activities as outlined in their FTE contract. There is no scholarship requirement associated with this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Duties Include:
Teaching (approximately 90%)*
Foster a dynamic, learner-centered environment utilizing diverse teaching methods that cater to the varied learning needs of students, grounded in educational theory and evidence-based practices.Instruct and mentor clinical rotations in outpatient community settings within the faculty practice at least two days per week.Encourage reflective and critical thinking, serving as a coach and mentor for students; collaborate with them on their progress and assist in developing learning plans to achieve course objectives.Design courses, sequence and schedule content; coordinate guest faculty; create and administer assessments, grading, and evaluations.Maintain and enhance expertise in subjects taught.Actively participate in accreditation and academic program review processes.Collaborate with colleagues to ensure course integrity across programs and the curriculum. Provide feedback on student assignments.Supervise independent study projects as necessary and assess learner performance in both classroom and clinical environments.Document student progress and notify relevant leadership of at-risk students or unusual occurrences.Attend on-ground intensives for relevant courses.Perform other duties as assigned.Service (approximately 10%)*
Engage in Faculty Organization meetings.Participate in College of Nursing Faculty meetings.Contribute to FNP program meetings.Serve on University or School committees as required.Provide service to the profession and community.Attend University and CoN events as specified in attendance expectations.Advise students as needed, providing information on educational resources to support their academic goals.Refer students to institutional and community support services when appropriate.Share relevant student information regarding needs and preferences that could influence policy and enhance the learning environment.* (NOTE: Total workload for a regular, 12-month annual faculty appointment is 1872 hours (1722 instructional hours, 150 service.)
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education.Specialization in the area of teaching responsibility.Current national certification by either ANCC or AANP.RN Licensure and FNP with Furnishing Number by the California Board of Registered Nursing.Recent (within five years) practice experience in the area of specialization.Preferred but not required: Documented high-quality didactic teaching experience in higher education for at least three years.Commitment to gaining knowledge and experience in current educational concepts and techniques.Skills:
