Job Summary

UTMB Health is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate III to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting a variety of non-routine research assignments and experiments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs moderately complex research experiments following general technical procedures.
  • Establishes and oversees quality control measures for assigned project operations.
  • Makes modifications to research procedures as determined by the Principal Investigator.
  • Contributes to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects.
  • Tasks include running independent in vivo mouse vaccine experiments using techniques such as high-parameter flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, confocal microscopy, standard tissue culture, and standard mouse handling techniques.
  • Maintains organized records of all tests performed and data collected, compiles and tabulates data, and provides analysis of results.
  • Confers with lab staff regarding results obtained and receives suggestions for modification to procedures and interpretation of final data.
  • Ensures the accurate assembly, calibration, operation, and modification of a variety of laboratory equipment as defined by appropriate guidelines.
  • Makes minor modifications and repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Independently performs literature searches as outlined by the Principal Investigator.
  • Oversees lab inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • May provide guidance to junior research staff.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in basic science or equivalent and 5 years of related experience or Master's degree in basic science or equivalent and 3 years of related experience required.
  • Preferred qualifications include Animal Science/Care Surgery, Biological Assays, Quantitative Analysis, Qualitative Analysis, Data Analysis, Tabulation of Data, Equipment Calibration, Technical Writing Experience, and Standard Laboratory Equipment.
