We are seeking a highly skilled Mobile Diesel Technician to join our team at Fleet Services by Cox Automotive. As a Mobile Diesel Technician, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and DOT inspections on vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Diagnose and repair issues with electrical, brake, cooling, and other systems on vehicles and trailers.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, and cooling systems.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service trucks and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicles, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections of vehicles.
- Work with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, make effective judgments as to prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, and Diesel tools to perform repairs and maintenance.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings observed on Repair Orders using company-issued iOS devices and our proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field.
- Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required.
- Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one prior to employment or within 72 hours of hire.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Must be at least 21 years or older.
- ASE T3 (Drivetrain) certification.
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
- ASE T5 (Suspension) certification.
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification.
- ASE T7 (HVAC) certification.
- ASE 608/609 certification.
- Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
- Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, which may include performing repetitive tasks.
- Communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner. Engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
- Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
- Ability to accurately judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or the distance between an object and the observer.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
