Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Manager to join our team at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. As a key member of our nursing leadership team, you will be responsible for the clinical and operational management of assigned Nursing units, ensuring that standards of practice for nursing and patient care are maintained.

As a Nurse Manager, you will participate in developing and implementing departmental plans and programs, supervise activities of assigned units, and provide data and/or prepare reports on activities, QA, etc. as required.

You will work closely with the Director of Nursing to develop and implement goals of assigned units and evaluate progress toward attainment of goals. You will also act as a liaison between Nursing administration and medical staff.

Using available utilization data, you will work with other Nurse Managers and the Director of Nursing to develop a staffing plan and schedules for units to maintain appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix. You will communicate the staffing plan to the Nurse Supervisor and ensure adequate staff coverage by reviewing vacation and holiday schedules.

You will select, hire, and supervise staff in your area of responsibility, initiate disciplinary action, including terminations, and carry out annual performance appraisal of employees recommending promotions, raises, etc.

You will ensure safe and professional patient care by enforcing and monitoring compliance to professional standards, identifying clinical and educational needs of staff, and recommending methods for improving staff competence and patient care.

You will provide information to departmental staff for therapeutic and effective patient care management through meetings, inservices, or other established means of communication. You will identify and put into place appropriate monitors of patient care delivery.

You will periodically review admission and patient management protocols, discharge criteria, and related policies and procedures for compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. You will recommend and implement changes as required and ensure information is available to staff in your area of responsibility.

You will oversee the quality assurance/quality improvement programs in your area of responsibility, identifying patient care issues, developing QA monitors, and ensuring that follow-up actions are implemented.

You will provide information required for reports on utilization, monitors, credentialing, and scheduling as necessary to be compliant with regulatory agency reporting and monitor requirements. You will prepare reports on service and utilization as required.

You will assist the Director of Nursing in developing an annual budget and monitor budget performance throughout the year to ensure units operate within budget guidelines. You will work with administration to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective allocation and use of resources.

You will assist management in developing a cost accounting methodology and model to enable Bergen New Bridge Medical Center to determine costs of nursing care and other direct costs and provide information for planning and decisions.

You will serve as a resource to staff in clinical and management matters.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing desired
  • Minimum of 5 years of psychiatric clinical experience including 2 years of supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, state, and federal regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles
  • Clinical nursing skills and expertise
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position
