Job Overview:
In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out various electrical tasks that include maintenance, preventive measures, construction, repair, and installation of diverse electrical systems and apparatus.
Key Responsibilities:
You will install, repair, maintain, and inspect electrical systems and devices such as motors, fixtures, transformers, generators, wiring, switchboards, alarm systems, controllers, circuit breakers, and medium voltage transmission equipment. You will work from blueprints and specifications, create working drawings, and single line power diagrams, while also diagnosing electrical issues using various testing instruments.
Additional Duties:
- Learn the layout of wiring for new or remodeled installations.
- Perform standard calculations related to load requirements and design control wiring for equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols and job-specific procedures to ensure a zero-incident work environment.
- Engage in a four-year apprenticeship through an accredited program while maintaining satisfactory academic performance.
- Execute miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned.
- Maintain communication with qualified electrical mentors to ensure understanding of instructions.
- Ensure compliance with scheduled state and local inspection timelines and standards.
- Document field wiring changes and modifications on blueprints for master records.
- Operate various hand and power tools, including air hammers, earth tampers, and small mechanical hoists.
- Assist in site preparation, including digging trenches and erecting scaffolding.
- Maintain and service tools and equipment.
Education and Skills Required:
- Developing knowledge of the National Electrical Code, National Fire Alarm Code, and relevant state and local codes.
- Ability to interpret and utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficiency in locating and diagnosing electrical malfunctions using testing instruments.
- Capability to operate a variety of power tools and shop equipment.
- Willingness to learn and perform duties associated with other trades, including carpentry and construction tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk continuously.
- Capability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift frequently.
- May require lifting heavy objects ranging from 5 to 25 pounds regularly.
Work Environment:
- This position may involve working at heights or outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to harmful materials, chemicals, loud noise, or hazardous machinery may occur.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive hourly pay of $30.00.
