Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Fiber Splicer Technician to join our team in Hillsboro, OR. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing and repairing fiber optic cables, as well as providing on-the-job training to junior technicians.
Key Responsibilities- Install and repair fiber optic cables
- Assist in splicing and termination of fiber optic cables
- Set up safety perimeters and flag traffic when required
- Prepare splice locations and termination points
- Clean and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment
- Splice loose tube fiber and operate splicing equipment
- Identify issues with fiber using red light and construct proper splice cases
- Submit daily time cards and fill out audit sheets
- Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR
- Follow all safety rules and regulations
- Update job completion sheets and pull fiber when needed
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position
- Good driving record required
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment
- Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment
- Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed
- Knowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers associated
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- Understanding of terminology used in fiber splicing
- Experience splicing fiber, including all necessary steps
- 2-3 years' experience splicing fiber
- Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry
- Able to perform all duties in fiber optic construction
- Ability to travel
This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. The position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind.
Physical RequirementsThe employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time, tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and feeling, crouching, and crawling.
