Building Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Brenham, TX. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes, ordinances, and other applicable laws.

• Conduct field inspections of commercial and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances.
• Review plans and specifications for new construction, alterations, and additions to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and ordinances.
• Issue stop work orders and notes deficiencies and deviations from plans.
• Interpret regulations and provide guidance to property owners, contractors, and design professionals.
• Collaborate with city staff, property owners, contractors, and design professionals to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances.

• Associate degree in engineering or construction, or a minimum of two years of experience in building, construction, engineering, or a related field.
• International Code Council Certifications (residential) required or must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
• Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) must be obtained within 18 months of hire.

The work environment requires that the employee exercise caution at all times and adheres to safety standards to avoid the risk of personal injury. The employee is exposed to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, chemicals, and bacteria.
