Job Summary:

This is a substitute athletic trainer position at Chief Leschi Schools. The successful candidate will provide temporary athletic training services to student-athletes, including injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation. The position supports athletic events and practices on an as-needed basis, offering professional health care and collaborating with coaches, health professionals, and school staff to ensure athletes' safety and wellness.

As a substitute athletic trainer, you will be part of a team dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as taping, bandaging or bracing and supervise fitting of protective equipment by student trainers.
Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care and determine whether they should be referred to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
Conduct and evaluate head/injury/concussion pre-screening, recovery protocol, and return-to-play status.
Administer first aid to injured athletes and maintain accurate records of all injuries, treatments and protocols provided.
Evaluate status of injured athletes and make recommendations for return-to-play.
Work cooperatively with coaches, nurses and sport medicine staff in setting up and carrying out a program of conditioning for athletes.
Provide advice to athletes, parents and coaches on matters pertaining to health and wellness.
Act as a liaison between health care providers, school district staff, athletes, coaches and parents.
Work with the school nurse in determining existing health conditions which may affect athletic participation and/or the general health and safety of athletes.
Provide coaches and site athletic director with a list of student athletes who may require specialized medical care and/or medications, coordinate with the school nurse to ensure coaches have received the appropriate training to administer medications and respond to life-threating medical conditions.
Provide coaches and site athletic director with a list of student athletes who are medically eligible to participate under district and state rules and regulations
Organize and direct daily athletic training room operations and duties.
Supervise student trainers and promote transfer of skills in lab setting.
Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the physician about reconditioning procedures.
Assess and report progress of recovering athletes to coaches, physicians, and parents.
Work closely with school athletic director to prioritize coverage of events.
Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at both home and away practices and contests as scheduled by the district/site athletic directors.
Maintain the ability to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays as necessary/required.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must be at least 21yrs of age.
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training with Master's degree preferred;
2-3 years of professional experience as an athletic trainer.
Washington State Athletic Training Licensure (or ability to become licensed prior to first day of work);
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.
Washington State Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Valid Driver's License and proof of insurability.
Current First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is typically indoors, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions. The noise level is usually moderate. The employee must be able to sit for prolonged periods, administer to medical needs, respond appropriately to medical emergencies, and work independently. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, fingering, talking/hearing conversation and other sounds, near/far visual acuity. The employee must be able to take initiative and work independently, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, be a role model and serve as an advisor to the students on the squad by providing direction and advice, maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community, including school and central office administrators, parents, and community members, understand WIAA interscholastic activities policies and WIAA coaching Standards, demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence, comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures.
