Job Summary

Cogdell Memorial Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Radiology Imaging Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of imaging procedures, including CT scans, and ensuring patient safety protocols are in place.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule patient exams according to procedure, schedule availability, and after insurance authorization has been obtained, if required, and medical necessity has been verified, if needed
  • Maintain good rapport with physician's offices and other department's staff
  • Verify patient identification and examination to be performed before starting a procedure
  • Assume responsibility for assigned area; control inventory of supplies for assigned area and clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment as required
  • Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population
  • Use independent judgment during exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients during examinations and procedures
  • Report equipment malfunction or damage to the department supervisor in a timely manner and contact appropriate equipment maintenance contract for service calls
  • Practice the radiation protection principle - As Low As Reasonably Achievable
  • Understand and practice proper use of all equipment; never operate equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction
  • Explain exams to the patient. Instruct and assist the patient in assuming the physical position for examination
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Evaluate images for technical quality as well as proper film marking and patient identification
  • Operate and maintain digital radiographic equipment
  • Operate the computed tomography equipment, power injector, and determine proper dosing and safety factors for the patient and examination, start IV catheters on requisite patients
  • Obtain patient's consent for intravenous contrast injection prior to the introduction of contrast
  • Operate the mobile fluoroscopic equipment, as needed, and ensure Quality Control logs for fluoroscopic equipment are maintained
  • Practice aseptic technique and infection control protocols as necessary
  • Documentation meets current standards and department/hospital policy
  • Perform other clerical duties as needed

  • Report to work on time and as scheduled, complete work within designated times
  • Consistently complete and maintain assigned duties
  • Wear identification badge while on duty and use computerized punch time system correctly
  • Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
  • Adjust work hours/schedule as needed to meet the needs and demands of the department and hospital
  • Aware of the Emergency Disaster Plan and how to respond if a disaster occurs
  • Respond within the 30-minute response time when on call
  • Work effectively with others, demonstrate leadership and teaching ability and the ability to work under pressure
  • Appreciation of and desire to be a part of a healthcare team dedicated to providing patients optimal care
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as judgment dictates

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
  • High-stress environment
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Pushing and pulling heavy objects
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Position requires moderate to heavy lifting of 50+lbs
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing
  • Mental demands include: alertness, analytic ability, memory, concentration, judgment, initiative, precision, creativity and communication
