We are seeking an exceptional Special Education Teacher to join our team at Healthcare Staffing Professionals, Inc. in Chicago, IL.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing students' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities. They will supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas, develop lesson plans, and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines. Additionally, they will collaborate with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues, and respond to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer developmental testing programs and subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans
  • Provide medical care and assistance to medically fragile children under supervision
  • Advise parents or guardians on student progress, communicate expectations, and develop methods for improvement
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals
  • Counsel students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues
  • Demonstrate pedagogical approaches that engage learners and provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements
  • Differentiate classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning programs
  • Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program
  • Instruct students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study
  • Maintain confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment
  • Order supplies and equipment to ensure availability as needed
  • Participate in meetings, such as IEPs and staff meetings, to convey and gather information required to perform functions
  • Prepare written materials, such as attendance records, anecdotal records, and IEPs, to document student progress and meet mandated requirements
  • Report health and safety issues to assigned administrators and appropriate agencies
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Serve as case manager for special education students to manage IEPs in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements

Requirements:

  • LBS1 and PEL certifications
  • Skills: Applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Knowledge: Algebra and geometry, reading technical information, composing documents, analyzing situations
  • Ability: Scheduling activities, gathering and classifying data, considering factors when using equipment, working with diverse individuals and groups, problem-solving

Salary Range: $55-$75 per hour
