Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Curator of Aquatic Husbandry is a key member of the Audubon Institute team, responsible for the care and management of aquatic life at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. This role requires a strong background in aquatic husbandry, with experience in the care of fish, invertebrates, and other aquatic animals.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the aquatic life department, including the care and maintenance of exhibits, animals, and equipment.
  • Develop and implement husbandry protocols and procedures to ensure the health and well-being of aquatic animals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the success of exhibits and programs.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff members on aquatic husbandry practices and procedures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of conservation and research programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to aquatic animal care and management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as biology, zoology, or marine science.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aquatic husbandry, with a strong background in the care of fish, invertebrates, and other aquatic animals.
  • Experience in exhibit design and construction, as well as animal training and behavior.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff members and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
