Key Responsibilities:

  • Review daily assignments and prepare for upcoming surgical cases.
  • Assess surgical preference lists to ensure clarity and update as necessary.
  • Procure essential supplies and instruments for surgical procedures.
  • Verify the readiness of surgical tables and equipment prior to each operation.
Ensure that all necessary items are available for each case.

  • Gather specialized instruments and sutures as directed by the physician before the procedure begins.
  • Exhibit proficiency in managing specialized supplies and equipment, ensuring their proper operation.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and perform tasks efficiently and systematically.
  • Assist the surgeon with various tasks, including suctioning, holding retractors, suturing, and wound irrigation under supervision.
  • Support the circulating nurse during surgical operations.

Post-Procedure Duties:

  • Assist with patient site care following the completion of surgical procedures.
  • Clean the operative site and ensure proper care.
  • Connect drainage tubes to the appropriate devices as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a surgical setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, families, and hospital staff regarding patient care.
  • Sound judgment and application of scientific principles in clinical situations.
  • Competency in required skills through hospital-provided training.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations and respond effectively to patient needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide culturally sensitive patient care and education.
