Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeological Principal Investigator to join our team at Merjent. As a key member of our cultural resource management team, you will be responsible for conducting and overseeing archaeological field investigations, implementing field procedures, and directing archaeological site documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct pedestrian walkover surveys, controlled surface surveys, and hand excavations (shovel testing) to identify and document cultural resources.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed field records and paperwork, including digital data collection using ArcGIS and AGO platforms.
  • Direct and oversee archaeological site documentation, including the creation of detailed reports and agency letters.
  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure project needs are met and schedules are maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar leadership capacity conducting pedestrian surveys and evaluative site testing fieldwork.
  • Knowledge of state-specific cultural resource guidelines, particularly in North Dakota and surrounding states.
  • Experience leading field crews and ensuring quality work products.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in ArcGIS and AGO platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
