Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct up to three (3) introductory composition courses on campus, in-person.
- Evaluate student assignments, provide constructive feedback, and respond to communications promptly.
- Utilize the designated Blackboard platform for sharing materials, collecting assignments, and conducting other course-related activities.
- Follow the established workload, reading selections, grading standards, and other general course requirements as outlined in the common syllabus.
- Participate in monthly meetings with the Composition Program Coordinator.
- Accountable to the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in English or Rhetoric and Composition (Doctorate preferred).
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching composition at the university or collegiate level; familiarity with Blackboard or other Learning Management Systems is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to teach according to a prescribed syllabus under the guidance of the Composition Coordinator and Department Chair; comply with university COVID-19 policies; be prepared to teach in-person; be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship; and be able to accommodate a schedule of available classes. Candidates should align with the mission and core values of Bowie State University.
