Position Title: Adult ESOL Instructor

ROLE SUMMARY

The Adult Education and Workforce Development Division at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston is dedicated to providing exceptional educational services aimed at enhancing the academic success of adult immigrant learners who encounter significant challenges in pursuing sustainable career paths and achieving self-sufficiency. Our Adult Education Centers deliver a range of ESOL instruction, catering to various levels of language proficiency, including specialized programs such as the Healthcare Bridge ESOL Program, ESOL for Human Services, and pathways for college and career readiness.

The Adult ESOL Instructor is responsible for delivering English language instruction, offering academic guidance, and providing tailored support to students. This role involves the development of contemporary curriculum materials that align with the needs and aspirations of students, while collaborating closely with the Program Director and the educational team.

SUPERVISION

The Adult ESOL Instructor reports directly to the Program Director, Program Manager, or their designated representative.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uphold professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality
  • Deliver ESOL instruction to adult learners
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of students, including standardized testing
  • Engage in professional development opportunities
  • Incorporate technology into the instructional curriculum
  • Provide educational guidance and classroom instruction
  • Create curriculum materials that adhere to best practice standards and emphasize communication skills
  • Participate in regular team meetings
  • Maintain accurate student records using agency reporting tools
  • Facilitate student access to additional educational and skills training programs
  • Implement strategies for gathering student feedback and utilize data to inform course offerings and staff development
  • Adhere to funder requirements and policies, including standards for Adult Education Center classes
  • Perform duties in a classroom and office environment, utilizing computers and other office equipment, with the ability to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Attend all required internal and external meetings and training sessions
  • Travel locally as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in education or a related field, or teaching certification with relevant experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a comparable setting is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of educational theories and best practices
  • Proven ability to work effectively and compassionately with a diverse student population, encompassing various backgrounds and English language proficiency levels
  • Proficient in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), with preferred experience in Google Classroom and Zoom
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
