We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Transportation Specialist to join our team at Tupelo Public Schools. As a School Bus Driver, you will play a critical role in transporting students to and from school, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the journey.
About the RoleThe Transportation Specialist will be responsible for operating a school bus within designated routes, adhering to time schedules, and picking up and discharging students at designated stops. The ideal candidate will have a valid driver's license, a bus driver's license, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities- Drive a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules;
- Pick up and discharge students at designated stops;
- Maintain discipline when students are on the bus;
- Report undisciplined students to the proper authority;
- Keep assigned buses clean;
- Keep to assigned schedules;
- Check buses before each operation for mechanical defects;
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness;
- Discharge students only at authorized stops;
- Exercise responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips;
- Transport only authorized students;
- Report all accidents and complete required reports;
- Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A valid driver's license;

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and priorities;
- Willingness to attend training programs and professional development opportunities;
- A strong commitment to student safety and well-being.
This is a physically demanding role that requires frequent sitting, handling, and controlling objects, tools, or controls. You will also need to react quickly and make precise adjustments to machine controls. You must be able to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away and determine the distance between objects.
CompensationThe estimated salary for this role is $45,000-$65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
