Role Description:
The Rex Core Laboratory is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician to become a vital part of our team. The technician will conduct initial levels of patient testing and manage administrative duties that support the clinical operations within the UNC Healthcare System.
Work Schedule: Wednesday - Tuesday, 9pm - 7:30am (hourly shifts). This schedule allows for a rotation of seven days on, followed by seven days off.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Guides patients in preparation for tests that necessitate fasting and addresses any inquiries they may have regarding the procedures.
2. Ensures the functionality of equipment and troubleshoots any issues that arise.
3. May assist in the education of Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as in the training of new staff.
4. May oversee the daily operations of a specific laboratory section or area.
5. May engage in team projects or independently handle special assignments.
6. Conducts a variety of routine and standardized tests utilizing established techniques and equipment. Prepares specimens, resolves any specimen-related issues, and performs analytical evaluations. Labels and stores specimens appropriately.
7. Prepares reagents and aids in the creation of standard and control materials. Monitors reagent levels and assists in inventory management.
8. Documents test results and maintains accurate records. Communicates test outcomes, highlighting any deviations from standard results to the supervisor or ordering physician.
Additional Information
Educational Qualifications:
● Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● If holding an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, must be eligible for ASCP or AMT Board of Certification and obtain BOC within one year.
● If holding an Associate's degree in Chemical or Biological Science, certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
Professional Experience:
● No prior experience is necessary.
