The State of Idaho is seeking a highly skilled Building Plans Examiner to join our team. As a Building Plans Examiner, you will be responsible for examining plans and specifications for new construction and remodeling of commercial, residential, industrial, public schools, and state buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examines plans and specifications for compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Provides technical assistance to architects, engineers, and contractors
  • Conducts site inspections to assess compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Prepares detailed reports and correspondence regarding code review compliance assessment
  • Provides plans examination services to Idaho cities and counties and other public and private entities

Requirements:

  • Current certification as a Building Plans Examiner and ICC Residential Plans Examiner
  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices
  • Experience applying the International Building Code (IBC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC), International Residential Code (IRC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), Life Safety Code, and federal and state adopted handicap accessibility standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communications, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour General Industry Training Course
  • Associate degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field
