About the Job

Benchmark Masonry is seeking a skilled Journeyman Mason to join our team. As a Journeyman Mason, you will be responsible for performing a variety of masonry tasks, including laying brick, block, and stone, and ensuring the quality and safety of our work.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in daily meetings with the crew to discuss safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure proper installation of wall ties, flashings, and laps of paper to job-specific standards.
  • Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs and levels.
  • Shape brick, block, or stone in preparation for final setting, using chisels and/or power saws.
  • Spread mortar, ensuring joints of uniform thickness.
  • Spread mortar over brick, block, or stone and foundation, using a trowel, and set masonry in place by hand or with aid of a forklift or crane.
  • Fasten or fuse brick or other building material to structure with wire clamps, anchors, or cement.
  • Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance.
  • Construct corners by building a corner lead of bricks, and filling in between the corners using a line from corner to corner to guide each course.
  • Lay and align bricks, blocks, or tiles to build or repair structures.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • A Journeyman Mason must be able to work with brick, block, and/or stone, completing custom work on distinctive projects.
  • Must have 3-5 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Journeyman masons need to have above-average skill and speed in laying brick, block, and/or stone.
  • A Mason is required to complete work safely, with quality, and within productivity specifications as directed by the Foreman or Superintendent.
  • Must be reliable and hardworking.
  • Required to have valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel in a repetitive motion; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, including working on hands and knees for extended periods of time.
  • Work in high, precarious places such as scaffolding and ladders.
  • Work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy is a plus.
