Job Description

Pacific Electrical Services, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Journeyman Electrician to join our team of experienced electricians. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing safe and efficient electrical systems for a variety of customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Systems Knowledge:

  • Understanding commercial and industrial electrical systems, including reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures.

Wiring and Circuitry:

  • Installing and connecting power distribution equipment, such as transformers and switchboards.
  • Familiarity with different types of wiring methods, including conduit, cable trays, and raceways.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

  • Diagnosing electrical problems and determining the best repair methods.
  • Using testing devices to locate electrical problems and ensure that repairs meet safety standards.

Safety Practices:

  • Adherence to safety protocols, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to prevent electrical accidents.

Knowledge of Local Electrical Codes:

  • Understanding and applying state and local electrical building codes.
  • Ensuring that all installations and repairs comply with legal standards.

Communication and Teamwork:

  • Communicating effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members.
  • Training apprentices and coordinating with other trades, including plumbers and carpenters.

Technology Skills:

  • Using software for project management, scheduling, and design, including CAD for layouts.
  • Adapting to the use of smart home technology, solar panels, and energy-efficient systems.

Primary Duties:

Installation of Electrical Systems:

  • Installing new electrical wiring, outlets, switches, circuit breakers, lighting systems, and power sources in homes, commercial buildings, or industrial sites.
  • Installing and connecting power distribution equipment, such as transformers and switchboards.

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Inspecting electrical systems for defects and inefficiencies.
  • Repairing or replacing faulty wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Performing routine maintenance on electrical systems to ensure efficiency and safety.

Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnosing and fixing electrical issues, including short circuits, faulty wiring, blown fuses, and malfunctioning switches or outlets.
  • Using testing devices to locate electrical problems and ensure that repairs meet safety standards.

Project Planning and Estimation:

  • Planning and laying out electrical installations for new construction or renovation projects.
  • Estimating the time, materials, and costs required for a project and providing detailed quotes to clients or supervisors.

Supervising Apprentices and Helpers:

  • Training and overseeing the work of apprentices, ensuring they follow safety procedures and learn necessary skills.
  • Delegating tasks to other team members and providing guidance as needed.

Testing and Inspection:

  • Testing electrical systems using diagnostic tools to ensure they function correctly after installation or repair.
  • Performing final inspections on completed electrical installations to confirm adherence to safety and quality standards.

Customer Service and Communication:

  • Consulting with clients to discuss electrical issues or new projects.
  • Providing clear explanations about electrical work, repair options, and costs.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintaining accurate records of electrical work, including blueprints, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Reporting to supervisors, project managers, or building inspectors on the progress and completion of work.
