Job Summary

As a Senior Manager on the Indirect Tax team at Walmart, you will play a critical role in shaping the company's tax strategy and ensuring compliance with complex tax regulations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to advise on sales tax treatment, work with tax data and technology teams to establish and execute roadmaps, and maintain internal controls over sales tax calculation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the business to advise on sales tax treatment of new lines of revenue, providing clear communication and guidance to non-tax professionals.
  • Work with tax data and technology teams to establish and execute roadmaps for automation and streamlining of tax calculation services.
  • Maintain internal controls over sales tax calculation, including collaboration with internal audit and presentation to external auditors.
  • Implement process improvements to current workflows of the team.
  • Enforce KPIs to measure team effectiveness and business responsiveness.
  • Conduct tax research and provide technical advice on multi-state issues around sales tax.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, providing ongoing feedback and identifying opportunities for growth.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA, CMI-Sales Tax or advanced degree in Taxation is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in Indirect Tax, preferably with exposure to retail, big 4, or mid-tier firms.
  • 3+ years in a leadership position.
  • Experience in creating and executing standard operating procedures for Sales Tax Operations in a cross-functional environment.
  • Experience advising on the sales and use tax implications of M&A transactions.
  • Knowledgeable about SAP or similar ERP Systems.
  • Experience reviewing sales tax language in proposed legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax, product tax, excise tax, transaction tax, gross receipts tax, and tax technical concepts.
  • Proficiency in tax data analysis and leveraging data to optimize tax strategies.
  • Experience working with multiple jurisdictions and navigating complex tax regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
