Work Schedule:
This is a second shift role, with working hours from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Position Requirements:
This position is being filled as Mechanic I, with the expectation that within one year of employment, the individual will need to meet the qualifications for Mechanic II to maintain their position.

Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles, trailers, and heavy machinery, including oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
- Perform engine diagnostics utilizing scan tools and laptops, and conduct test drives to confirm drivability issues and repairs.
- Remove and replace parts to address mechanical and electrical system failures.
- Inspect, adjust, and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, heating and air conditioning systems, as well as driveline and suspension systems.
- Assist in the removal, repair, or rebuilding of diesel and gas engines and both automatic and manual transmissions.
- Aid in the repair of hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, cylinders, and valves on heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Tow vehicles and equipment using appropriate wrecker methods.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of tools and equipment utilized in the automotive trade.
- Understanding of safety precautions and occupational hazards.
- Ability to weld and cut using gas or electrical equipment.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical repair manuals and using electronic diagnostic tools.
- Capability to perform repairs at heights up to 25 feet and to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Valid Kansas driver's license and commercial driver's license (CDL) are required.
- Compliance with ASE policy is mandatory upon hire and throughout employment.
- Possession of at least two eligible ASE certifications at the time of hire is preferred.
Work Environment:
Employees may be required to respond to emergency situations as part of their duties. Public Works & Utilities is responsible for critical systems, including water and wastewater treatment and the transportation network.
