The City of Wheat Ridge is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Maintenance Technician at various levels (I, II, III, IV). Each level is responsible for performing semi-skilled labor across a range of tasks related to the upkeep and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drainage systems, pavement markings, and other municipal assets.
This role requires flexibility for on-call duties and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, while consistently delivering high-quality customer service.
Levels of Maintenance Technician:Maintenance Technician I:
Entry-level position with no prior experience required, although familiarity with general construction or municipal operations is preferred.
Maintenance Technician II:
Engages in semi-skilled to skilled tasks with prerequisite training and certifications.
Maintenance Technician III:
Requires a minimum of two years of experience in street maintenance and relevant certifications.
Maintenance Technician IV:
A journey-level position requiring at least four years of experience in street maintenance and advanced certifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct asphalt and concrete repairs, including shoveling and spreading materials for street patching and reconstruction.
- Perform snow removal using various equipment and ensure streets are safe during winter conditions.
- Operate construction machinery and tools, conducting pre- and post-operation inspections and maintenance.
- Install and maintain storm drainage systems, ensuring proper functionality.
- Execute traffic control marking installations and maintain related equipment.
- Implement work zone traffic control measures and direct traffic as necessary.
- Clear debris from public right-of-way areas and perform general maintenance tasks.
- Adhere to safety protocols and respond to public inquiries with professionalism.
- Document daily activities and maintain accurate records.
- Participate in emergency response as required.
Supervision:
This position operates under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor. The Maintenance Technician I/II/III does not supervise others, while the Maintenance Technician IV may lead a team.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record. Various levels require specific certifications and training, which will be outlined in detail during the hiring process.
Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of construction methods, safety practices, and the ability to operate vehicles and equipment effectively. Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety are essential for this role.
