We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Housekeeping Worker to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Housekeeping Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide housekeeping services to ensure a clean and sanitary environment in assigned facilities
  • Meet high standards of housekeeping in offices, meeting rooms, public areas, bathrooms, and other areas within the facilities
  • Perform floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removal of trash, and snow and ice removal from entrance ways and sidewalks
  • Report needed equipment and building repair and any unsafe or unusual housekeeping situations
  • Care and handle housekeeping supplies, equipment, and assigned keys
  • Occasionally assist with the preparation of regularly scheduled events

Requirements

  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents
  • Must be able to walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, twist, and shovel snow
  • Must be able to safely and efficiently operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment
  • Must be willing and able to learn the use of heavy floor care equipment
  • Must be capable of working independently without close supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with the public and/or customer service experience
  • Knowledge and experience with various cleaning methods
  • Housekeeping/cleaning experience in an institutional or commercial cleaning environment
  • Housekeeping/cleaning experience working in an educational environment
  • Previous experience operating professional cleaning equipment

Working Conditions

This position is designated Emergency Personnel and requires employees to report to work as needed during campus emergencies, holidays, closings, and per supervisor's instructions.

Normal work hours are M-F 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., but work hours may vary to meet management and customer needs.

May work around large numbers of people, especially during class change and special events.

Must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

This position meets the criteria for issuance of a mobile communication device.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
