Job Overview:

New Hampshire Retirement System Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Communication and Legislative Affairs to join our team. As a key leadership role, this position will drive NHRS's communication and legislative initiatives to ensure clear, timely, and effective engagement with members, retirees, employers, legislators, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobbying and Advocacy: Track and analyze legislation impacting NHRS and advise Executive Management and the Board of Trustees on legislative strategies and communication.
  • Public Information and Education: Lead public information efforts, developing communications across platforms (brochures, newsletters, website content, news releases, etc.) to keep stakeholders informed on current and proposed benefit provisions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Plan and oversee member and employer education programs, media relations, and public presentations.
  • Crisis Management and Strategic Planning: Act as a liaison and spokesperson with legislators, media, unions, employers, and other stakeholders, delivering factual and unbiased information.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of seven years' experience in journalism, public relations, legislative relations, or similar fields.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills with a proven ability to build relationships and manage high-impact communication strategies.

Compensation: This is an exempt position with a pay range of $100,000-$125,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
