Position Overview:

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant to join our outpatient Otolaryngology/Otology team. The selected candidate will engage with patients presenting with a variety of ear-related concerns, including but not limited to ear pain, infections, tinnitus, and vertigo.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, daytime hours

No night shifts, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.


The Physician Assistant embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver direct patient care that showcases clinical proficiency and advanced knowledge.

2. Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic health conditions within the specialty area.

3. Collaborate and consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals in the field of expertise.

4. Develop educational resources and strategies for instructing patients, families, and staff on relevant topics.

5. Mentor graduate students in advanced practice aspects.

6. Actively engage in and/or conduct research relevant to the specialty area.

Clinical Duties:
1. Perform thorough assessments of patients' health status through health histories and physical examinations.

2. Implement primary prevention strategies and manage stable health issues.

3. Provide specialized care to assigned patients, addressing both stable and unstable chronic conditions.

4. Establish diagnoses for common short-term or chronic health issues.

5. Prescribe medications, dietary plans, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aids according to clinical privileges.

6. Order and interpret necessary laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms, and diagnostic procedures as specified in clinical privileges.

7. Evaluate patients to assess their need for additional healthcare services.


8. Educate and counsel patients and families on preventive care, medical conditions, treatment plans, expected outcomes, and the use of prescribed treatments and medications.

Document all care provided and procedures performed in the medical record.

Serve as a consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise.

Leadership and Organization:
1. Mentor staff to ensure high-quality healthcare practices.

2. Assist in the development and review of policies within the area of expertise.

3. Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, and/or hospital committees and task forces.

4. Consult with management on assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating clinical/system issues.

Education Responsibilities:
1. Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families.

2. Develop and participate in programs to address the continuing education needs of staff.

3. Deliver formal education to both internal and external groups related to the specialty area.

4. Be willing to serve as a mentor and/or preceptor to students.

Quality and Outcomes:


Identify primary patient needs and participate in the quality program with a focus on patient satisfaction, quality performance, and access.

Perform and coordinate administrative and clinical program duties as assigned.

Develop and monitor quality care indicators and patient satisfaction metrics for a specific patient population.

May perform additional duties as assigned.
