Position Overview:

The Regional Manager Trainee (RMT) role is designed to equip qualified candidates with the necessary training to excel as a Regional Manager. In this capacity, you will be responsible for leading a team of Store Managers to ensure an outstanding customer shopping experience, operational efficiency, and a workplace that fosters engagement and embodies the values of Cumberland Farms Inc. Your primary objective will be to manage all personnel within your designated area to meet the financial performance goals set by the company.

Training Phases:

Phase I involves the RMT completing essential training that every Cumberland Farms team member undergoes, including New Hire Orientation. Following this, the RMT will participate in the Management in Training (MIT) program, gaining valuable insights into the roles of Store Manager or Restaurant Manager. The final stage of Phase I consists of a 2-3 month assignment at a specific location, where the RMT will manage the team and oversee daily operations.

Phase II requires the RMT to spend 6-8 weeks shadowing a designated Regional Manager Trainer, observing their responsibilities and assisting with daily tasks to learn the intricacies of the Regional Manager role. Upon successful completion of the training, RMTs will transition to the position of Regional Manager in Waiting, temporarily assigned to their home store until a suitable position becomes available.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a strategic plan for the area, ensuring optimal staffing levels and effective performance management of all team members.
  2. Enhance team engagement and productivity across multiple locations, creating an environment that encourages employee retention and development.
  3. Exhibit leadership qualities by establishing trust with store teams, setting clear and measurable objectives, and maintaining open lines of communication.
  4. Build a robust leadership team by recruiting or promoting management candidates to address future staffing requirements, while ensuring current teams receive appropriate training and support.
  5. Analyze financial documents, including profit and loss statements and gap analyses, to monitor sales, expenses, labor costs, and inventory management, guiding Store Managers towards improved profitability.
  6. Conduct weekly store visits to verify compliance with company standards regarding store conditions, promotions, operational procedures, and financial controls.
  7. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and product quality while managing safety and security across the territory.
  8. Focus on food service operations, driving sales, and maintaining food safety standards.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Regional Manager.
  10. Must be capable of fulfilling the essential functions of this role with or without reasonable accommodations.

Working Relationships:Collaborate with store team members, Regional Manager, VP of Retail Operations, Human Resource Business Partner, and various departments including Facilities Maintenance, Marketing, Risk Management, and Legal.

Minimum Education:High School diploma or GED.

Preferred Education:Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, which may substitute for some required experience.

Minimum Experience:10 years of retail experience, including general management in a restaurant setting, and successful completion of the RMT Program.

Preferred Experience:1-3 years of multi-unit management experience in a convenience store or restaurant environment.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong team-building and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new software as necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple issues effectively, and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Strong analytical abilities.

Travel Requirements:Extensive travel (approximately 95%) between locations.

Work Schedule:Typically Monday through Friday for a 48-hour work week, mirroring the Store Manager's schedule, with occasional weekend work as business needs dictate.

Physical Requirements:Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must be able to stand or walk for 8 hours a day and perform various physical tasks.

Additional Information:

  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to relocate is preferred.
