Job Title: Delegating Nurse

The Delegating Nurse will play a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment at our school community. This position requires a skilled nurse who can work closely with staff, students, and families to ensure the well-being of all.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide first aid, medical care, and emergency services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by students' physicians.
  • Assist in the collection and management of health forms.
  • Create and maintain documentation of all encounters, assessments, and interventions.
  • Serve as liaison between students, teachers, and families regarding health concerns.
  • Provide evaluation of competency of Certified Medication Technicians.
  • Develop initial nursing evaluation and the nursing plan of care.
  • Available to staff to answer questions concerning medical and/or medication issues.
  • Perform staff training and retraining as needed/requested.
  • Assess the health care needs of the school population.
  • Be available for adequate supervision of school health plan.
  • Staff CPR/First Aid training.
  • Staff Certified Medication Technician training.
  • Support school administration in following up with families to get forms completed.
  • Support school with the submission of Maryland State Vaccine Reports.
  • Form reviews in preparation for all class trips.
  • Review the medication forms and meds, making sure nothing has expired.
  • Identify teacher/chaperone to whom you will delegate the administration of medication.
  • Generate Field Trip medication administration form for paper documentation.
  • Support the school with following medical provider instructions to create Diabetic/Seizure Action Plan.
  • Providing general advice to the school regarding best practices around student health services and programs.
Position Qualifications:
  • Current Maryland RN license - BSN preferred.
  • Training/experience as Delegating Nurse in Maryland schools is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience.
  • Nursing experience in a high school setting.
  • Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to quickly and competently assess medical situations and escalate as needed.
