Role Overview
The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver radiation therapy by targeting designated areas of the patient's body with prescribed radiation doses. This is achieved through the application of advanced technical expertise while ensuring a strong focus on patient care.
The Radiation Therapy Specialist operates under the direct supervision of the Cancer Center Nurse Manager and in accordance with the directives of the Medical Oncologist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients in understanding the potential side effects of radiation therapy and provide guidance on managing these effects.
- Prepare the treatment room, equipment, medications, and necessary supplies for the procedures being conducted.
- Determine the appropriate radiation dosage and treatment area, ensuring the safe administration of radiotherapy to patients.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all therapy sessions, documenting details such as the treated area, radiation dosage, equipment settings, patient responses, and cumulative radiation exposure.
- Collaborate with the Physician/Oncologist to make informed recommendations regarding patient care.
- Seek guidance and clarification when uncertain about new procedures and treatment protocols.
- Exhibit proper attendance and punctuality to support the efficient operation of the office.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Compliance: Adhere to the Corporate Compliance Policy and all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of conduct related to the position. Report any suspected violations to the immediate supervisor or designated compliance personnel.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Nursing Manager of the Cancer Center.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program.
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T) and licensure by the State Department of Health.
- Successful completion of the certification examination.
- Commitment to ethical standards.
- Current CPR certification.
Work Environment
The work setting is clean and comfortable, with some exposure to clinically infectious diseases and bodily fluids. The noise level is generally quiet to moderate. Candidates must be capable of lifting and assisting in the movement of patients.
