Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Physical Therapy Assistant to join our team at Texas Children's Hospital. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will provide essential support to our physical and occupational therapists in delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physical and occupational therapists in developing and implementing treatment plans for patients with various physical and cognitive disabilities.
  • Provide age-appropriate care for patients ranging from neonates to adults, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Set up and clean patient care areas, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform patient care activities within the scope of your training and responsibilities, demonstrating basic clinical competencies.
  • Coordinate patient transportation schedules with primary therapists, patient care units, and coworkers daily.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of linen and patient-related supplies.
  • Clean and disinfect hydrotherapy whirlpools and therapy mats according to established departmental protocols.
  • Report any patient or personal injuries, anticipated problems, or unusual situations to your manager or designee.
  • Complete related documentation according to departmental and hospital guidelines.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent education with a basic familiarity with a medical environment preferred.
  • Experience working with children in some capacity is preferred.
  • A current basic life support certification or schedule to attend a CPR certification course is preferred.
  • Demonstration of basic clinical and non-clinical competencies.
  • Ability to be articulate, courteous, and supportive in dealing with hospital, administrative, and departmental personnel, patients, and parents.
  • Independently support and assist in patient care by following the direction of a therapist or therapy assistant.
