Role Summary


MaineHealth is seeking a seasoned clinical executive to take on the role of Senior Medical Director for Physician and APP Services. This position is pivotal in shaping the clinical, operational, and financial strategies for our medical group at Stephens Memorial Hospital.


The Senior Medical Director will collaborate closely with both an administrative partner and the Chief Medical Officer, playing a key role in enhancing regional quality, safety, and compliance initiatives while also spearheading provider recruitment efforts.


In this capacity, the Senior Medical Director will oversee medical and associate medical directors across five distinct clinical areas: internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, and general surgery, in addition to managing the Stephens Specialty Clinic, which includes oncology, urology, cardiology, pulmonology, and ENT.


This role reports directly to the Regional Vice President of Physician and APP Services and is integral to the leadership team at Stephens.


Alongside administrative duties, the Senior Medical Director will maintain a clinical practice at Stephens Memorial Hospital, with a strong preference for candidates specializing in primary care.


MaineHealth represents Maine's largest integrated health system, uniting top-tier providers and healthcare organizations dedicated to fostering healthier communities across the region.



Qualifications

  • MD/DO or APP certification from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • Must hold a valid license in the state of practice, a Federal DEA number, Medical Staff membership, and relevant clinical privileges, with a requirement to achieve and sustain Board Certification in the respective specialty.
  • Proven leadership experience and a strong clinical reputation are essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities are required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare finance and familiarity with practice information technology, particularly Epic, is preferred.
  • Insight into current healthcare market trends and dynamics is crucial.
  • Ability to think strategically while remaining grounded in operational and financial realities is necessary.
  • Demonstrated operational and financial acumen to effectively allocate resources for optimal quality of care and service.
  • Strong political, interpersonal, and organizational skills to navigate a matrix management environment.
  • Results-oriented and proactive, with the capability to inspire urgency in others.
