Job Overview:
Delivers expert nursing care in the surgical environment to patients undergoing operative or invasive procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Conducts scrub duties, including selecting and managing instruments and supplies utilized during procedures.
- Performs circulating responsibilities, which include monitoring, documenting, and communicating patient status while overseeing comprehensive nursing care before, during, and after procedures.
- Directly assists the operating physician with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, and patient positioning.
- Prepares surgical rooms and instruments for use.
- Applies evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing, ensuring care is tailored to the patient's age and clinical needs as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
- As a representative of SSM Health, demonstrates professional nursing standards as defined in the professional practice model, utilizing the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to navigate the evolving health and nursing needs of patients.
- Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent education for licensure.
Experience:
- No prior experience necessary.
Physical Demands:
- Continuous verbal communication.
- Regular standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry.
- Regular use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, including color recognition.
- Frequent use of smell for odor detection.
- Regular hearing to receive verbal communication and identify alarms.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional patient handling.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
