Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Bakery Cake Decorator to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a Bakery Cake Decorator, you will be responsible for creating visually stunning cakes and pastries that exceed our customers' expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cake Decorating: Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, and select pastry items to meet business demand.
  • Production Management: Prioritize production lists, recommend adjustments as needed, and maintain accurate production and spoilage records.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, address customers' needs in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques.
  • Team Support: Provide guidance and support for bakery decorator apprentices and other team members.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor product quality for freshness, ensure proper product rotation, and maintain a clean and sanitary working environment.
  • Special Orders: Create special order cake designs based on customer preferences.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain equipment in accordance with Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience, complete the bakery decorator apprentice training program, or equivalent experience.
  • Skill Requirements: Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills, including intermediate piping techniques and the ability to create decorative flowers and borders. Understand color theory as it pertains to blending buttercream colors and coordinating complementing palettes.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday, and work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to Chemicals: Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Temperature Exposure: Exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Flexible Schedule: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
