KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares both hot and cold meals, including main dishes, vegetables, salads, desserts, and snacks for early childhood education centers.
  • Adheres to the Child and Adult Care Food Program, standards set by the Head Start Department, and local health and licensing regulations.
  • Consistently follows daily meal production guidelines and standardized recipes, ensuring compliance with the cycle menu.
  • Packages meals according to the established schedule and production protocols, preparing them for transport.
  • Assists in the preparation of food for infants.
  • Implements proper food handling and preparation procedures, forecasting necessary food types and quantities.

  • Conducts daily pre-preparation tasks to facilitate efficient kitchen operations and assists in maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • May be required to deliver food and non-food items to various locations.

  • Engages in staff training and workshops, including cross-training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge of Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal sanitation regulations applicable to food service operations.
  • Participates in menu planning when requested and performs additional cooking tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with dishwashing responsibilities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and recording appropriate food temperatures, reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Organizes and assists in the receiving, storing, dating, and rotating of inventory using FIFO methods, ensuring cleanliness in storage areas.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, including all equipment and common areas, and disposing of trash as per schedule.
  • Handles classroom supply requisitions for the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Food Services Coordinator.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in food preparation, particularly in large-scale cooking.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and write effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and organize files.
  • Demonstrates responsibility in managing activities and tasks.
  • Utilizes creativity and self-expression in job functions.
  • Influences opinions and attitudes regarding ideas and practices.
  • Makes informed decisions based on sensory evaluation and measurable data.
  • Interacts courteously and cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Completes repetitive tasks with accuracy and thoroughness.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must obtain and maintain the following certifications:
  • Food Handlers Permit (renewed bi-yearly).
  • First Aid certification (renewed every two years).
  • CPR Infant/Toddler certification (renewed every two years).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must complete a pre-employment TB test and continue annual testing thereafter.
  • Must pass a post-offer physical examination within two weeks of hire.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have reliable transportation and liability coverage for job-related duties.
  • Must present proof of work eligibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Normal physical activity includes occasional sitting and frequent standing and walking.
  • Requires lifting and carrying heavy items such as boxes of supplies.
  • Involves using various body parts while performing tasks.
  • Requires the use of all five senses for job functions.
  • May involve climbing ladders or reaching for inventory.
  • Involves delivering food items by lifting and carrying heavy boxes.
  • Requires opening and closing heavy oven doors and handling large pots and pans.
