Personal Care Assistant

Salary: $12-$20/hr
Position Summary
The Personal Care Assistant is responsible for delivering essential personal care and supportive services within the home environment. This role operates under the guidance and supervision of the Staff Nurse and the Director of Nursing or designated supervisor.
Qualifications
- Completion of at least the 9th grade; high school diploma preferred
- Ability to read and write in accordance with job requirements
- Successful completion of a 75-hour training program for Home Health Aides that meets state and federal standards, with certification
- Demonstrated competency through evaluations and annual assessments
- Preferred: One year of experience in a similar role
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with clients, families, and agency staff
- Reliable transportation is a must
- Proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken
- Empathetic and caring demeanor
- Current CNA license or HHA certification
- Valid CPR certification
- First Aid training certification
- Valid driver's license
- Malpractice Insurance coverage
Key Responsibilities
The Home Health Aide will perform tasks as assigned by and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Therapist, ensuring quality care for clients. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assisting clients with personal hygiene and grooming
- Maintaining a safe and healthy living environment
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals as directed
- Supporting clients with mobility and exercise
- Administering medications that clients typically self-administer, under supervision
- Assisting with specific treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
- Collaborating with therapy personnel to support rehabilitation efforts
- Encouraging client independence in accordance with care plans
- Engaging clients in activities to promote mental alertness
- Providing emotional and psychological support to clients and their families
- Building trust and confidentiality with clients and their families
- Documenting visit details and updating clinical records as required
- Reporting any changes in clients' conditions to the appropriate supervisor
- Executing assignments as instructed and communicating any challenges
- Coordinating with other community agencies involved in client care
- Performing light housekeeping tasks to ensure a comfortable environment
- Participating in required training sessions
- Confirming visit schedules with supervisors regularly
- Notifying the agency of any absences due to illness or other reasons
