Position Overview
The Lead Culinary Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing the operational activities of hourly team members across different departments. This individual will engage in various facets of the facility, managing the efficiency and execution of kitchen operations.
You will cultivate relationships between the CookUnity team and our independent contractor chefs, serving as a vital resource for tools and support.
Daily responsibilities include overseeing meal production, ensuring food safety, and maintaining quality control. You will monitor equipment maintenance and conditions, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at both state and federal levels. Additionally, you will guarantee that all food meets quality standards and is produced in a timely manner.
Your hands-on approach and presence in the production kitchen will support CookUnity employees and hold our independent contractor chefs accountable.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and manage staff to achieve labor productivity and overtime objectives.
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of associates and supervisors, equipping them with the necessary tools, training, and quality guidance.
- Ensure a welcoming experience for our chefs and implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Drive the growth and development of your direct team, including performance management and professional advancement.
- Maintain a work environment that prioritizes food and team safety, ensuring adherence to Food Safety and Sustainability policies.
- Collaborate with new chef teams during onboarding processes.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a commissary kitchen or high-volume food preparation environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of kitchen health and safety regulations.
- Chicago Food Service Manager License is required.
- Proficient in Google applications (Gmail, Drive, Spreadsheets, etc.).
- Ability to lead a team in a dynamic environment characterized by high levels of ambiguity and change.
- Conversational Spanish skills are strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and leadership capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven ability to develop and guide others to achieve desired outcomes and productivity goals.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and environments.
- Flexibility to accommodate varying work hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Willingness to work in temperature-controlled environments.
- Commitment to working onsite every workday.

Final pay rates will be determined based on the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market alignment.
Pay range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 USD.
